Best Japanese curry I've had. Just super homey feel and kind service all around.
Went there once in a late afternoon around 3 or 4pm. The restaurant was empty with no customers (which was fine I don’t mind) and the store owner was talking to a Japanese man as I entered. The store owner clearly noticed my presence but ignored and kept talking for another 10 min, so I left without ordering food. Maybe the two were having some important conversation, but if you decided not to operate the business during those hours, you could’ve have just politely acknowledged it to me when I stepped foot in the restaurant, and not have a returning customer wasted 10min for nothing.
MoreGreat food, great service. Ordered the Katsu don and Chicken and Katsu don. Very delicious, cant believe I finished the whole bowl.
MoreAn amazing Japanese curry location hidden behind not so attractive entrance. If you are just going after delicious food, you are at the right place. if you are a first time dinner, ORDER CURRY RICE. Simply the best Japanese curry in town. Also, the Sukiyaki is good in a cold day as well.I give it a 4.5 star as the inside of the restaurant is not the most beautiful but the food itself definitely worth 5 star.
MoreIsn't the best attention but the food is amazing. Excellent quality/price. I extremely recommend the bento lunch, good price. Sadly, both times I went, the bathroom was dirty or closed.
MoreTokyo Grill is a homestyle Japanese restaurant, serving traditional dishes such as Curry Rice, Katsu Don, Udon and more. The restaurant is small, with a small amount of staff which may feel that service is a bit limited at times.I ordered the Sukiyaki, which was a very generous portion with a bowl of rice included. The portion was big enough for one, and if a light eater, can be two meals. The food was overall good, and priced well for the quantity. They also offer a lunch bento set as well. Definitely a place to go in the area for very traditional Japanese food, and I believe is also family owned and operated.
MoreGot the Katsu w/curry. It was basic but very delicious, good portion for the price aswell. 🔥
MoreNice Japanese food. But It's dark. Feeling like an old-fashioned set menu restaurant in Japan.
MoreSimply taste bad. Service is good
Cozy little place. Ordered chicken and vegetables ramen. It was delicious with a slight smoky flavor. Chicken was well cooked and tender. A good place to grab lunch during weekdays. Was out in half an hour so kudos to the fast service. Staff was helpful and polite.
MoreWe had our first try with sukiyaki at this place. It was rather empty during the weekeday, but thanks to this we had it calm compared to bustling street outside. Food was delicious and even if this portion was aimed to serve just one person we had it good for two. Service was good, we possibly had a change of shifts as we were told to pay at the moment of placing order, hard to say. Place also from rather the cheaper side of japanese variety in Toronto.
MoreIt's not cheap, the plate is small too. The food is decent.
Tiny place, food tastes yummy and service is amazing
Amazing taste! local cozy and small, it´s not fancy but you fell like in a home. Japanese authentic! staff super friendly and polite.
MoreFood is amazing and here you can order delicious Japanese style highball!!I highly recommend this place:)
MoreSimple and heartwarming, this is my go-to place for eating a casual meal by myself on a Saturday afternoon. The place's got a private and home-like atmosphere, with radio or folk songs often playing in the background. You sit down, order a don or curry dish, empty your mind along the relaxing music or occasional chit chats from the table beside - it is a hidden gem in the heart of downtown.
MoreThe best chicken katsu in the city. Quality customer service each and every time I have been, and the portion sizes are generous as well.
MoreCozy one of a kind Japanese Grill house run by, cooked by, Japanese people. In Toronto Japanese cooking is often served by, prepared by Koreans. Which is not always a bad thing . It just would lose a star. I give this place five stars . I almost gave it fours stars, taking one away for too much use of salt but I think I am being a bit biased
MoreService is pretty quick. The edamame is little too salty. Otherwise it’s good.
MoreGreat neighborhood Japanese restaurant for lunch or dinner. Natto is a must try if you want a taste of the authentic culture
MoreNot the same as it used to be. Came to TG for the last 16 years. After it closed down and rebranded its been terrible. Came in for dinner at 9pm. They said they close at 10pm on the door, waitress said sorry last call at 9:05pm! Go to the uptown location, this one sucks!
MoreI really enjoyed my Oyakodon, though the bowl could have been a tad larger. The restaurant had great service as well.
MoreFriendly and quick service. Meals range from $10-15. Curry is in large portions and comes with small chunks of beef (used as per their sauce flavouring). Their curry is on the thick side and is very hearty. Very oishiiii!
MoreAte here since before the modern reno, homestyle as promised, soooooooo tasty; was craving curry today, the japanese girl who served me was super sweet, great service and food.
MoreVery traditional and real Japanese food here. The place is a little bit crowded but very cosy and casual. They serve a big amount of food. That's really excellent value.
MoreThe other Japanese restaurants can try to be fancy and try new things, but you have to have the basics right. Tokyo Grill is DOING IT right. This is how I cook at home and how my mom made it too.
MoreI had the Chicken Katsu Don which they serve with miso soup. It was pretty average.
MoreThe quality of food and service was always exemplary. My go-to restaurant when I'm in the area :)
MoreA really nice and cozy Japanese homestyle restaurant with great prices. The name may be a bit misleading as there is no grill items. You will find instead different assortments of Japanese rice or curry bowls (don) and noodles (like authentic udon dishes). A great experience if you want to step out the sushi and ramen restaurants and just have something cozy. The service is really amazing, too.
MoreDelicious food. Served hot out of the kitchen and very generous portion sizes.
I did not expect quality since the store front and decor screamed sketch but the food brings an above average home cooked feel at a very reasonable price. Try the lunch special (Mon-Fri) although the portions are small you can sample a few dishes. Price has gone up and the quality has gone down since the renovation.
MoreGreat simple Japanese fare. Easy to miss location, and cash-only. If you're in the neighbourhood, make the trip. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
MoreSoso not a restaurant quality food. Taste like japanese home-cook food
A hidden gem. Don’t walk away just because the pictures on the menu don’t look appealing. It’s actually a nice Japanese restaurant. The fish dish and udon I ordered both taste fresh and delicious. The deco is old, I suggest an innovation and new photos for all dishes
MoreLittle Japanese spot near Yonge and Bloor area. I've only been there a couple of time, it's cozy little place that serve great katsu. It has more or less become my go-to spot for chicken katsu curry, I've tried a couple of other spot, like Katsuya, but I definitely liked the taste here a lot better. I would definitely recommend this place to friends.
MoreLove the food, very good and fast service.
I really like the curry udon and the curry katsu rice here! The curry is awesome 😋
MoreVery friendly family restaurant. Cozy environment. Excellent service. This Japanese restaurant has been there for 20 years. It has the best taste compare with other new ones.
MoreKind Japanese service, very hearty food. Had takeout today, and I'm giving 5 stars purely based on the attention to detail put into the napkin folded to hold the the chopsticks and spoon
MoreService was good But food was...ummmmmm.....I don't wanna come this place for food
MoreI'm a Korean and currently here. The taste of fries is pretty good. Especially fermented osinko (I don't know the exact name) is very excellent for me.The waitress is kind to me unlike the other reviews so I remind that I also did kind to her ;)
MoreLove love love this restaurant. My go to spot for sukiyaki or any comfort Japanese food.
MoreThere is a reason why this place has been around for over 20 years. Honestly, the quality of food, service, and atmosphere is perfect. The first time I ever went here was in high school and it was amazing. Since then nothing has changed. Highly recommended for anyone looking for tasty and authentic Japanese cuisine.
MoreRecently renovated space. Great friendly service and really good japanese food.
There's something so comforting about their sukiyaki especially on those cold winter day's. It's a great pick me up. Portions are a good size, never been let down by this place.
MoreCozy little izakaya, serves some delicious dishes. Great service from the staff.
MoreThought I'd try it with the "raving" reviews. Much was said about "home cooking". Had Sukiyaki and Kaki Fries. Relatively "pricey". Interesting note that gratuity has a 12.5% option. Beef was tough and soup was bland. Not much condiments in the bowl. Batter for fries was light. But I still prefer other establishments. Staff was extremely friendly. Initially wanted to come back for the sparkling sake. Think I'd skip it unless someone else has a better experience.
MoreGreat food, specialized in home made style Japanese curry. I've been a customer for last 15 years and I still like it.
MoreI came at 12pm when there's no customers in the store. The waitress sat me down quickly and I ordered kakifry set which is impossible to find anywhere else. 5 juicy oysters with a big portion of salad, full bowl of rice, and miso soup for only $11 something, really good price! The batter of the oysters was light and not greasy at all even though they were freshly fried. The miso soup was a bit too salty.I really liked that they offered HOT water instead of serving you icy cold water in the middle of winter. The waitress was friendly and attentive but wasn't all up your nose, which is something I appreciate when I'm here for a quick warm lunch.
MorePlz show some respect to the food, I don't know if you guys change chef or what. But you used to be good and not anymore
